Jill Scott is the only daughter of her mother Joyce Scott. She was born in Philadelphia in Pennsylvania on April 4, 1972. She was raised by her grandmother and she was an only child. Then she teamed up together with Amir Quest Love Thompson from The Roots. They wrote You Got Me together. Then, during Roots performance she showed herself to be an artist. After that, she secured collaborations with artists such as Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. She was able to perform during the Canada tour of Broadway's musical Rent.
